The town of Marion has a storied history, originally named Muckle's Ridge, the town was an education hotbed with multiple well known colleges founded there. The legendary Sam Houston was married there and it was a place the jazz legend Hal Kemp called home.

Almost named Dittoville and then Twickenham, AL this city had one of the first municipal water systems in the nation. The founder, which the town was named after, lost his land and then ended up buried near the town dump.
